Sr. Veronica Professes Her Solemn Vows

This Sunday was a glorious day at Assumption Ukrainian Catholic Church in Perth Amboy, NJ,   as our Sr. Maria Veronica of Jesus professed her solemn vows of poverty, chastity, obedience and Marian consecration.
The vows were taken after reading of the Holy Gospel during the Divine Liturgy and in front of Most Rev. Andriy Rabiy, Auxiliary Bishop for Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Philadelphia and the Mother Mary of the Immaculate Conception Ambrogio,  the  Provincial Superior of the Sisters Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matará.  Present at the Liturgy were Fr. Alberto Barattero, IVE, the Provincial Superior of the Institute of the Incarnate Word, Fr. Ivan Turyk, Pastor of Assumption Church, alongside many religious sisters, guests and parishioners. Sister Veronica was especially grateful for the presence and support of Major Superiors of Women’s Ukrainian Religious Congregations in the USA, Sr. Eliane Ilnitski, SSMI, the Provincial of the Sisters Servants of the Immaculate Conception and Mother Maria Kelly M.S.M.G, Superior of the Missionary Sisters of the Mother of God.
At the celebration of the Divine Liturgy, the beautiful symbols – the ring of espousal with Jesus, the white crown of flowers, the lighted candle and the Constitution of the Sisters Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matará were presented to the newly professed. The rite of perpetual profession also included the prostration of Sister during the Litany, the pronouncement of the handwritten formula of vows into the hands of the Provincial Mother Superior, the signing of the document of the vows, and greeting by other perpetually professed members of the community. The final profession of Sr. Veronica was like a wedding day, because consecrating her life entirely to God through life-long vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience, Sister accepted a vocational call to become a bride of Jesus Christ.
The solemn ceremony was followed by a beautiful reception at our school hall.

ACS 21CCLC Summer Program Underway

Students just finished their regular school year and already they have jumped into four weeks of Language Arts and math to keep up with their skills. In addition to all of their hard academic work, they are playing hard in recreation, creating in arts and crafts, learning new recipes in culinary and building, testing, and observing in STEAM activities. Everyone, including the teachers, looks forward to Friday’s field trip this week to Dinosaur’s Farm.  The last week’s trip to Turtle Back Zoo was great.  Keep checking back to see more updated on our summer activities.

ACS School Picnic 2022

The sky was gray and full of clouds but there was sunshine in our hearts. It was picnic day for Assumption Catholic School at Warren Park in Woodbridge. ACS students played basketball, soccer, catch, went on hikes, talked, went on swings, and just enjoyed the park. Our Family and School Association grilled burgers and hot dogs for everyone, plus provided watermelon. All the smiling faces told us it was just the perfect day.

It was STEM day in 2nd grade!

It was STEM day in 2nd grade! First, our young scientists discovered chemical reactions by mixing baking soda with vinegar in empty bottles. The reactions heard in the STEM Lab as the colorful balloons filled with carbon dioxide was sheer glee!  We were so excited that we had to share our discoveries with Mrs. Shumny.  Next, we learned how to make the perfect paper airplane & how they fly.  We tested the airplanes outside and learned that trick to a high flying paper airplane is to fold them with sharp creases.  A fun and interesting day was had by all!

Principal for a day

Principal for a day?  Sign me up!  Several students had a chance to be principal for a day. All they had to do was to get a parent to fill out an income survey.  Winners were randomly picked from the surveys that were returned.
The day started with a lot of enthusiasm and energy. Then Mrs. Shumny gave them some principal business to do. Included on that to do list was a chromebook inventory, a building checklist, and teacher observations. There were many trips made to classrooms to ask questions and deliver papers.
It is safe to say that the best part of the day was lunch with Mrs. Shumny and giving their home room class a no homework pass. Surely 1st grade Anthony and Sullivan, 3rd grade Bianca, 4th grade Dylan, 5th grade Hailey, 6th grade Anthony, and 7th grade Sammy would agree it was great to run the school (but just for one day)!

Donuts with Dads

June 10th was a very special day here at ACS. Students had a chance to bring their dad’s to school for a Donuts with Dads morning. Father Ivan started the day with Divine Liturgy with students sitting with their dads or stepdads. After Liturgy everyone went to the auditorium for a celebration that included donuts and entertainment.

Mrs Shumny welcomed all of the dads/stepdads and then the students entertained with songs and poems, followed by coffee and donuts. Mrs Shumny had several prizes that were given away with a grand prize of $100. She explained that at the Moms’ tea the grand prize was a $100 gift card to a spa. So, the dad that won the $100 could use the money to purchase a gift card for his wife for a trip to a spa! Dads/stepdads ended the morning taking pictures with their children at the special photo spot. Special thanks to the Class of 2023 for serving all of our families. Thank you to the FSA for making this day possible!
