New Principal Orientation

This fall the Diocese of Metuchen welcomes seven new and eager principals to their team and Mrs. Shumny is one of them.  The new principal’s orientation day was spent collaborating on curriculum, procedures and the importance of Catholic Schools in the community.  The full day workshop was very informative and will be beneficial to all the new principals.  May God continue to give them strength and patience as they prepare to start the new school year.

New Third Grade Teacher, Mrs. Cooper

The principal and administration of Assumption Catholic School are happy to announce the hiring of Mrs. Patricia Cooper as the new third grade teacher. Mrs. Cooper is a graduate of Monmouth University and has her New Jersey State Elementary and Students with Disabilities Certification. She also anticipates being a Highly Qualified Middle School Mathematics teacher by the end of the year. She comes to ACS with a wealth of knowledge from both corporate America and the public school sector. If you had the opportunity to meet her at our Meet and Greet, you will agree she is a great asset to ACS.  We know she join our team in continuing to strive for excellence in our student’s academic, social and most importantly, religious development. Please join us in welcoming Mrs. Cooper to our ACS family.

Meet & Greet

On Tuesday, August 8th the Assumption Catholic School playground was buzzing and quaking!  All ACS families and many new perspective families were welcomed to come and meet the new Principal, Mrs Shumny.

The evening started with a FSA sponsored uniform exchange followed by the New Parent Orientation meeting and ended with the Meet and Greet outside.  Over a hundred parents and students came to say hello and wish Mrs Shumny well in her new role.  The new Principal discussed future plans and goals for the school with new parents and gave several tour of the building to prospective families.  All who came enjoyed ice cream served by our fantastic teachers and had fun with the amazing petting zoo animals from The Friendly Farmyard!  The very interactive petting zoo had bunnies, goats, ducks and even chickens!  The children enjoyed feeding and playing with the animals very much and of course the ice cream treat!

The faculty at ACS is thrilled that eight new students registered at the event and looks forward to welcoming our new families and a successful school year.

Science! Science! Science!

ACS’s primary grades have received their first delivery of Science equipment. These resources will assist student’s in their research and laboratory studies including our new STEM initiative. The science lab will  be fully stocked with equipment and teacher’s are busy planning for the upcoming school year!

Still Working….

ACS teachers recently attended a phenomenal workshop called, "Creating Trauma Sensitive Schools & Communities".  The seven hour professional development was presented by the Attachment & Trauma Network and gave teachers new insight on how a child’s brain reacts to the outside world.  Topics included ACE studies and research which teaches educators to recognize and respond to children undergoing stress and how to effectively respond to their needs.

All the teachers who attended felt this information will be a valuable tool in the classroom.

Professional Development

ACS Teachers off on summer break? Not yet!  The teachers at Assumption Catholic School ended the 2016-2017 school year with intense Professional Development to prepare them for the upcoming school year.  The presenter gave a two day class on the importance of understanding the changes in the NJ State Standards, effective teaching methods, discipline and differentiated instruction.  ACS teachers are always learning and work eagerly to stay ahead of the trends in education and are committed to teaching the leaders of tomorrow.  Planning is already underway for the upcoming year – stay tuned for the school calendar!

Alumni News – ACS Class 2013 – Where are they now?

At Assumption Catholic School we work diligently to  keep our personal connection with every graduate.  We prepare our students not only for high school, but also for college and the daily challenges of everyday life.  We have recently received news from our Class of 2013 who just graduated high school and are planning on attending higher education institutions.  We have a couple of students missing, yet we hope to add them to our list of success stories.

May God bless each and every high school graduate and may they always remember they are part of our ACS Family.  Congratulations to the Class of 2017!

End-of-Year School Picnic

On Wednesday, June 15, the ACS celebrated the ending of the terrific school year with the picnic at Warren Park in Woodbridge, NJ. The weather was gorgeous, the food was delicious and everyone had a lot of fun. It was especially nice to see graduates of 2017 there, the children always enjoy a visit from their former schoolmates! We are particularly grateful to the Family School Association for sponsoring and organizing this event!
