40 Anniversary of the Diocese

On Friday, November 19, 2021, Bishop Checchio began the celebration of the Diocese of Metuchen’s 40th anniversary with an inaugural  Mass.  Father Ivan participated in the procession entering Saint Francis Cathedral.  ACS was well represented by our Principal Mrs. Shumny, Sr. Veronica, Mrs. Pickering, and Mrs. Lombardi plus ACS parents and students. Afterward, on behalf of Assumption Catholic School,  Father Ivan gifted Bishop Checchio with  the Diptych  Icon of Jesus and Blessed Mother of God  to honor the occasion. We are proud to be part of the Diocese of Metuchen  family of 23 Catholic schools and appreciate our association with them. Mnohaya Leeta Dioceses of Metuchen!

Happy Thanksgiving from ACS

We recently asked families to support the charity, Baskets for Neighbors. What a great show of support it was! Beside our school family, members of Ukrainian Assumption parish also generously contributed to the efforts of the drive. We were able to send bags and bags, and boxes and boxes to be distributed to families in need in the Perth Amboy area. When you sit down at your Thanksgiving table, just know that because of you there will be many happy families that are able to also have a happy day because of your generosity.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

CPR Training

It was the day before Thanksgiving  ACS students were home acting all cool, they  had a day off but the teachers had school.
Father Ivan led us in prayer. Principal Shumny facilitated the staff meeting. The day was complete after all of our teachers either received their original certification or re-certification.  Today’s CPR training class gave the teachers information and the skills  needed to help adults, children and infants during breathing and cardiac emergencies.  We hope the need should never arise but if it does our teachers and Mrs. Shumny are prepared to handle the crisis.  Thank you Oceanport First Aide!
Way to go teachers!

Show choir

The library is alive… with the sound of music! After a year and a half break, Show Choir has returned to ACS. These dedicated students, many of whom are joining Show Choir for the first time, meet before school starts in the morning! They are just as excited to learn our church hymns as they are our silly warm ups – like the tongue twisting “Taco Bell Canon.” This week we started our Christmas music and we are looking forward to performing in December. Show choir is open to any student from 3-8 grade with an interest in singing, even if they’re a little shy about it. We would be happy to have you!

Apple-Solutely Fabulous.

Mrs. Kukuruza’s Second Graders had an “Apple” solutely tasty time composing a poem about apples. This week, we learned about God the Creator who created the apples we eat – and that one way of praising him is through poetry. After we were “inspired” by snacking on 3 types of apples, we shared what we thought of them, and enthusiastically began our simple poem. The students followed directions, wrote, cut, glued and shared their work with each other! It was “bushels” of fun!

Sweet Ending to a Fun Project

After a long summer of fun, students know there is always a little work to do for when they return to school. This year they were able to do a different kind of book report on their summer reading. They used a cereal box to share their reading experience. After the boxes came to school, and students were able to show off their hard work, Mrs. Shumny decided that a celebration was needed.
Students were treated to a sweet cereal breakfast after a beautiful Divine Liturgy.
The Class of 2022 did an outstanding job serving the students their favorite cereal. Students were able to see all of the Cereal Box Reports displayed on the stage and learned that hard work has sweet rewards!
