Kindergarten News

Assumption Catholic School offers full day Kindergarten ( 4 years),  where our  students study reading, phonics, handwriting, math and  have a lot of fun. They also participate in music, physical education, and computer education programs. On the first day of the Catholic Schools Week, the kindergarten students worked really hard, using their best handwriting, drawing and coloring.  You parents should be very proud of your children.  Can you believe they wrote the School’s Mission Statement  all by themselves? WOW!  Look in the hallway and see our fabulous kindergarten writings!

Jobs of the Future Expo

Throughout the months of December and January, the seventh and eighth graders at Assumption Catholic School, in Perth Amboy have been researching information on future careers that interest them.  Students have been examining and exploring jobs that currently don’t exist, but will exist five, ten, or twenty years from now.  Their research and discoveries are amazing!  Students studied topics such as vertical farming, computer engineering, and the future of medicine and architecture.  They not only wrote about their chosen profession, they had to incorporate how technology will alter that career in years to come.  In addition, they were also required to contact a company in their field, share their research with them, and ask if their organization is in the planning stages of creating any of these innovations.

Keeping this amazing project in the classroom was simply not an option!  So, on Thursday, January 16th, 2014, different businesses and local citizens were invited to Assumption Catholic School’s first “Jobs of the Future Expo.”  Our students displayed their projects, and shared their presentations with many Perth Amboy citizens, including the Perth Amboy Police Department and Homeland Security representatives. The students also extended an invitation to companies they contacted, as well as to local officials.  The positive feedback and response was amazing – over 175 people came to support the middle school in their endeavors.

Our guests enjoyed presentations, posters and student’s Animoto video presentations about their future careers and how technology will alter it. It was an amazing experience for all involved and it showed our children the value of education and planning for a bright future!

You’ve Got Mail!

The correspondence from local businesses continue to come in. As part of a project, ACS middle school students wrote to local community members and businesses throughout the United States requesting information as well as sharing their research on possible careers of the future. The students and teachers are delighted at the responses and continue to encourage students to stay focused and work hard to achieve their dreams!

Responses have been received from Notre Dame University, Monmouth County Sheriff Department, Apple Inc – just to name a few. Students have received information about future innovations, job requirements and most important acknowledgement that their dreams are attainable. A sincere thank you to all who took the time to respond to our ACS middle school!

Flat Stanley

On December 19th the TerrificThird Class of 2019 created their very own Flat Stanley figures. The figures are based on the story by Jeff Brown about a young boy who gets flattened by a fallen bulletin board. Over break, students read Flat Stanley: His Originial Adventures and kept a journal, from Stanley’s point of view, documenting adventures with his new family. Students came back to ACS excited about sharing their adventures with Stanley. Some memorable Stanley adventures included unwrapping presents, visiting with relatives, participating in gymnastics classes, taking care of sick family members, playing video games and driving cars! The Stanleys certainly had some memorable experiences!

Catholic Schools Week 2014 begins with Prayer on Sunday

On Sunday January 26,  the Assumption Catholic School students  came to the parish church  for a special Liturgy  to celebrate the beginning of the Catholic Schools Week. The theme for National Catholic Schools Week 2014 is "Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service," according to the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA), which organizes the event.  Rev. Ivan Turyk  celebrated the Liturgy and during his homily he expressed thanks to parishioners,  parents, students, faculty and staff of Assumption Catholic School for the dedication and hard work in promoting Catholic Education. After his homily, four students Jordan Collazo ( 5 grade), Jillian Pogoda (6 grade), Katherine Perez ( 7 grade), Amarilis Rodrigez ( 8 grade) read their essays that focuses on faith, knowledge and  service at ACS to the many parishioners  and ACS families in attendance.

Jobs of the Future EXPO

Jobs of the Future Expo was held at Assumption Catholic School on Thursday, Jan 16, 2014. From third grade on, students can and have set their minds on a future career, which is why ACS feels it is important to s…tart early when directing them toward options in the science, technology, engineering, medicine or art. Our 7th and 8th graders had an opportunity to research many interesting jobs, as well as gain information that may shape their future careers. Our thanks go to our teachers, Mrs. Shumny and Mrs. Pickering for organizing this great event.
