Beefsteak Dinner and Tricky Tray Fundraiser

Assumption Catholic School’s FSA  is always looking for new fundraising ideas that can raise more money each year for our school. On Thursday, October 8, 2015  Mr. Sean R. Daly, President of FSA, Mrs. Sharon Leone, Fr. Ivan Turyk and our school Principal Mr. Michael Szpyhulsky   attended St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic School  Beefsteak / Tricky Tray in Passaic, NJ. It was a very well organized event with so  many fabulous prizes, too numerous to name. Many thanks  to St. Nicholas School parents and administration for being so welcoming to us. Fr. Ivan once again won the HDTV, which he plans to donated to the FSA sponsored Christmas Bazaar on Sunday, November 8th.

Jumping Into Fall

As part of second grade writing, the students used their creative writing skills to complete the following writing prompts “If I was a scarecrow” and “I like fall because”. The students have quite the imagination! Following the writing activity, they created their very own scarecrow to display their writing. Happy Fall!

ACS Bowling Begins!

ACS students from kindergarten through eighth grade arrived at the Woodbridge Bowling Center on Tuesday to begin a new year of bowling. Younger bowlers from kindergarten through the third grade bowled using bumpers that prevent them from bowling a gutter ball. Fourth graders had their first experience without bumpers. The older, more experienced students enthusiastically showed off their skills to some newcomers to the sport. If the first day is an indicator of the rest of the year, ACS is going to have a fun bowling season.

Rosary

Today the students of Assumption Catholic School dedicated their monthly Rosary to Pope Francis.  Mrs. Lojko and our Sodality members led the children in prayer and asked our Blessed Mother to continue to keep him safe in his travels.

Back to School BBQ

The Annual Back to School BBQ was amazing this year. The wonderful teachers of ACS served up about 160 meals to students and their parents. You guys are great! Thanks to our teachers, field trips will cost a little less.

Dig Into Learning

To kick off the school year, the second grade class wrote about what they did over the summer “buckets of fun” and what they want to learn about this year “dig into learning”. They got to express their creativity by designing their very own bucket and shovel to display their writing. Many of them had fun summer adventures and can’t wait to learn new exciting things in second grade!

I am a Super Second Grader

To help the students get to know one another they created an “All About Me” mini poster. Some of the topics included their birthday, favorite thing about school, what they want to be when they grow up and some favorites such as color, number, TV show, book, and animal just to name a few. Lastly they got to put a picture of themselves as a “Super Second Grader!” They were very eager to get to know one another and had fun sharing.

Back to School Writing Prompts

The students got to express themselves through writing about how their first day of school was. They were given a writing prompt “My First Day of School was…” and had to complete the thought. The finished product resembled an apple and they were very excited to be author’s for a day to share their work.

Assumption School Remembers 9/11

Our Assumption Catholic School Family continued the tradition of Friday Liturgy on a very significant day this year. Our beginning of the school year Liturgy was celebrated by Father Ivan on September 11, 2015. Father Ivan spoke to the children about September 11, 2001 and the impact that day had, and still holds on our country. He spoke of the response of prayer and unity that resulted. Earlier in the week the Class of 2016 discussed how li…fe has changed since then. As a result, they came up with a prayer of remembrance of that day which included the hope that God will protect all of those suffering from terrorism. This prayer was recited at the end of our liturgy.
Dear God,
As we mark this tragic day in the history of our country, please help us to remember the innocent souls that you called home to their heavenly reward. Comfort those that have been left behind to grieve. Holy Spirit, please give them the grace to accept this loss.
We ask that you protect those that continue fight against terrorism every day. We ask your protection for those that cannot protect themselves, especially in those countries where terrorism continues to rage.
Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy.
