The Perth Amboy Fire Department visited ACS this morning to teach fire safety lessons. They talked to students about having a working smoke alarm, making an escape plan, and using 911 appropriately. Students watched and listened attentively as the firemen explained what their job is like, how they use their equipment, how the fire pump truck works and how to stay safe.Thank you Perth Amboy Fire Department for all you do for the community and our school.

Cooking and Arts/Crafts clubs
What do ACS students do on a rainy Wednesday afternoon? Cooking club and Arts and Crafts club! Today the middle school made chicken meatball, rice and potato soup – Mrs. D’s special recipe and with Mrs. Pickering’s assistances. Their soup was delicious and they have one more recipe to add to their collection. Their next stop was Arts and Crafts with Miss Martinez and Mrs. Lawrence and they finished that fall projects and they look amazing! 21st Century Grant continues to bless our kids.

Principal’s Newsletter – September 20, 2019
About 20 years ago a hundred million dollar Federal Grant was created, the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) to create an enriched afterschool program. Today, that grant is $104 billion dollars and available to schools who apply and meet their criteria.
This year and for the next five years (I plan on re-applying!), Assumption Catholic School with the Academy for Urban Leadership Charter School have been awarded. Based on our enrollment, this means approximately $100,000 to offer a FREE aftercare program for grades 3 to 8. This is such a blessing for our school! We have been given the opportunity to design clubs to meet the interests of our students, and offer our parents a free child care and enrichment program – we are extremely excited.
Our aftercare for grades Pre-K to grade 2 will continue to run for $4 an hour and we are working to create different activities to keep them engaged as well.
I am looking for a seventh and eighth grade Math Teacher. Mrs. Rosell has resigned due to family obligations. We have been blessed to have Mrs. Szeliga substituting but are looking for a new teacher. If you know anyone who may be interested please have them contact me asap as we have already begun interviewing.
We have a lot of new and exciting things happening at ACS and we are grateful and excited, yet we realize that with any new programs many questions arise. Do not hesitate to text or call to discuss any feedback or questions. If we don’t know we can’t fix it.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Shumny

Backpacks blessing
ACS in Perth Amboy, NJ completed its first full week of school with a beautiful whole school Liturgy and a special Backpack Blessing. The children placed their backpacks on the steps of the altar. Some book bags had student’s first set of school crayons, some had thick algebra books – but all were filled with our student’s excitement and love for learning. Father Ivan prayed and asked God to continue to watch over our students and to guide their choices. Today, we celebrated God’s gift of learning, and we prayed for His blessing on students, teachers and our school for the coming year. Wonderful end to the first full week of school!
