OPEN HOUSE – Catholic Schools Week
Assumption Catholic School will join nearly 8,000 Catholic Schools across the nation in celebrating Catholic Schools Week. Parents and prospective preschool through grade eight students are invited to visit our school on Sunday, February 6th, from 12:30 p.m to 3:30 p.m. for the Open House. You will have the opportunity to tour the school and enjoy conversation with Principal and current students, who will be assisting with each tour. Registrations for the 2022-2023 school year, will be accepted at these sessions. It’s never too early to start thinking about giving your children the great gift of a Catholic education – one which is effective and affordable! If you can’t make it to the OPEN HOUSE, feel free to call the School office and set up a tour with us.

ACS Culinary Club
Hungry anyone?! ACS Culinary Club is at it again – so far in the new year they have learned how to make French toast and delicious brownies. Students are getting great recipes, working together, and learning everything from prep to clean up! Way to go and let’s add Mrs. Shumny loves being your taste tester!
Young engineers in the making!
2nd grade studied the engineering process during science class, and thanks to our brand-new STEM Lab, they were able to spread out to design and build “lunchboxes” that would keep water bottles cold. Our 2nd Graders had as much fun creating their lunchboxes, as they did checking the temperatures throughout the day, and overnight!
Value in Art
This past week the first and second graders learned about value in art. Not how much money a piece of art is worth, but how you can vary the darkness or lightness of your colors for a more interesting picture. They also talked about how using shading and shadows can make their favorite cartoons look more realistic. To practice value, they created a magical forest of trees and arranged the different parts of the trees in order from the lowest value (darkest) to the highest value (lightest). The students had fun experimenting with color, cutting and gluing their trees together.
100 Books in (Less Than) 100 Days
Congratulations to our Second Graders, who completed their Reading Challenge to read 100 books in 100 days in 58 days! All the books were read during “brain” breaks in our school day, and in order for the book to “count”, students had to fill out a ticket listing the title, author, their full name and date, written with proper spelling and punctuation. Mrs. Kukuruza even joined in the challenge, filling out a ticket each time she read a book to the class! The 2nd grader who read the most books was Gia V. !! Way to go!
New Anywhere Carts
ACS finally received their 12 new Anywhere Carts and everyone was super excited! We now have a safer (and less bulky) place to store our chromebooks and chargers. We always plan the use of our funding with students and teacher’s needs in mind. We feel so incredibly blessed.
Kahoot
After a long morning of exams, 7th grade took out their chrome books and used Kahoot, an online quizzing game! They reviewed for their upcoming language arts exam. A great time was had by all, and we ready for tomorrow’s exam! Who says they can’t smile
Project Based Learning 🔥 5th grade!!
The 5th grade students did a fantastic job completing and presenting their Math “Pick A Project”. Students were able to select one of the three project choices and were then placed in a group to work together to complete the project. One group selected the bouncy ball project and had to come up with a business plan, another had to design a prototype ferry and several decided to build forts. The projects all related to concepts in the current topic and activated prior knowledge. They worked together in groups sharing ideas through the planning stage, all the way to the presentations. They can’t wait to complete the next one!!
