Welcome June! We are down to the last couple of weeks of school – we’re almost done! This is my last official Newsletter for the 2017-2018 School Year.

First, the fire drill we had this week was our regularly scheduled fire drill. Tuesday’s Lock Down and Shelter in Place were due to a student threat received at Shull School. I know many different versions of what happened at Shull School are circulating on social media and only the Police Department has all the facts. We, at ACS, take every notice from the Perth Amboy Police Department with the upmost seriousness and act according to our Emergency Plan – we did exactly what we have outlined in this type of situation. Our student’s safety is our number one priority. I know some panic set in when parents called the school office and no one answered– please know that we don’t pick up until the lockdown is over. I sent the school wide REMIND to keep everyone informed and I hope this helped. I am happy that no one was hurt in our neighboring school and that the Police Department acted quickly and God watched over all. These are turbulent times and we have to be ready and vigilant. I thank my teachers for being calm and following our protocol. Any questions please give me a call.

Second, a very special thank you goes to Mrs. Pickering and the 8th graders for organizing Field Day. All our students had a good time and our 8th graders did an amazing job coordinating the activities. Third, 2018-2019 calendar is attached.

Lastly, I invite all our friends and family tomorrow, June 8th to celebrate the Liturgy with us at 8:45am and then come back to the school for a presentation to our Sister Thomas and Sister Yosaphata. We have a surprise .

Please call the office if you have any questions or concerns.

The weeks are just flying by!  It seems the rain is gone and summer is here to stay.  I have started our end of year DRA testing and will send home correspondence soon.  In addition, your child’s IOWA Test results are being sent home today.  We are pleased with our student’s growth and will be planning during the summer to continue to enhance our curriculum.

As of July 1st Sister Yosaphata and Sister Thomas will be leaving their ministry at ACS.  After 55 years of service and dedication we are sad they are leaving us, yet happy they are joining the rest of their order to focus on new vocations and be able to reside together. On June 17 we will have a special reception, in the church basement right after the 11:30am Liturgy – please join us in wishing our Sisters the very best!

Here are some more reminders:

  • Our summer hours will be posted next week.

Dear ACS Families,
Happy Spring….well, almost! This last snow storm took us all by surprise. Apologies for the late change in the school cancellation decision Wednesday night. I was hoping a delayed opening was the best option, but once Perth Amboy Public Schools closed we decided to close as well. Unfortunately, we do have to extend our school year by one day, so please note that Monday, June 18th (12:30 dismissal) is now the last day of school and report card distribution day. Graduation days will NOT be changed.
I wanted to take this opportunity to thank all our parents who participated in the Gertrude Hawk candy sale. I know it is an obligation for our Plan 1 Tuition Plan families but I am grateful that everyone went above and beyond with this candy sale. If you have any issues with your order please email me as soon as possible. All FSA fundraisers subsidize tuition costs and all funds come back to our students. FSA fundraising supports our building’s maintenance, special programs, curriculum enhancements and special projects.
A few important reminders….
• We are waiting to see if Bishop Ahr & Union Catholic High Schools will reschedule the play performance. If they will not, we will either return money to parents or apply it to the Liberty Science Trip (May Trip).
• Please review our calendar and menu REGULARLY – both are available online.
• Apple Store Field Trips: Please remember we need both permission slips!
Tuesday, March 27th – Gr. 2 & Gr. 3
Wednesday, March 28th – Gr. K & Gr. 1 Thursday, April 12th – Gr. 4 & Gr. 5
Friday, April 13th – Gr. 6 & Gr. 7 Monday, April 16th – Gr. 7 & Gr. 8
Thank you for all your support! Please if you have any questions or concerns, give me a call.

God Bless,
Mrs. Shumny
