ACS Christmas Program

Assumption Catholic School students celebrated the true meaning of Christmas by hosting a beautiful concert for families and friends. This year our theme was celebrating Silent Night’s 200th anniversary and it’s significance all around the world. The students celebrated by singing the meaningful song in German, Spanish and Ukrainian! It was a spectacular performance enjoyed by all in our school community. We also want to acknowledge our special visitors; The Missionary Sisters of the Mother of God who came from Philadelphia to share in this joyous annual event AND our wonderful music teacher, Ms. Lawrence! Merry Christmas from ACS students, teachers and administration!

Christmas Luncheon.

Students of ACS in grades 6 through 8 gathered together for a very special Christmas luncheon and had a chance to try holiday foods from different places in the world. Students also researched their own ethnic traditions, learning where some of their own family traditions possibly started.

3D Shapes

The children have been busy learning to identify, compare and create 3D shapes. Despite the difficulty of the subject at any age, the kindergartens were successful in understanding and building their own shapes. By using simple items such as play doh and sticks, the children used their hands to learn and build a something all on their own. The experience was educational, fun, and left the kindergartners with a lasting memory of their first architectural structures! Keep succeeding kindergartners, we are all very proud of your progress so far!

Personal Budgets

This week seventh grade began working on personal budgets, family budgets, and developed their own personal budget charts. Using their SmartBoard technology and www.icivics.org, they examined data from different websites and debated what items should be kept and which should be cut from their budgets. Ultimately, the project progressed to the “People’s Pie” project where the class attempted to balance the United States’ national deficit. The class of 2020 came pretty close to accomplishing this challenge! Many students were so intrigued that they continued to try to pass a balanced budget on their own time. Mr. Zagari did an outstanding job getting the students to collaborate and tackle a real life issue!

St. Nicholas visits ACS

St. Nicholas made a long journey from Ukraine on Thursday to visit good boys and girls at the Assumption Catholic School. in our school we commemorate St. Nicholas on December 6 and he certainly is a very popular saint – a patron of countries, dioceses, cities, churches and of many people. During the visit, Junior Drama, under the direction of Mrs. Lawrence, put together a great play about the life of St. Nicholas for the entire school. St. Nicholas greeted the students and staff with gifts sponsored by school’s FSA board.

Christmas Bazaar Success

The ACS Christmas Bazaar and a Gift Auction held on Sunday, December 2 was a tremendous success. This annual FSA (Family School Association) fundraiser is a favorite of students, parents, parishioners and is a wonderful way to enjoy family time while supporting our school. The beautiful auction prizes, children’s games, face painting, vendors, crafts, and delicious food all added to the festivities leaving attendees smiling and entertained. Thank you to the FSA board members, who spent months preparing for this day.

Another Successful Community Celebration

Thanksgiving Dinner was a huge success full of food, family, friends, and thanks for being together with people from around the community who care for each other and serve each other at this special time of year. This year students in the Senior Drama Club under direction of Mrs. Pickering entertained our guests with a short skit about Thanksgiving Day. The FSA board member and volunteers under the direction of “head chef,” Mrs. Derevenska prepared and served a full Thanksgiving dinner. In addition to pie baking, the students of ACS also helped with the preparation of the cornbread and potatoes. The day was extra special because we were joined by guests from the parish and from Perth Amboy community. The students and our special guests were sent home with full tummies, ready for a nap!
