Bazaar Mega Prize

Assumption Catholic School will hold their annual Christmas Bazaar and Gift Auction on Sunday, November 17, 2019. There will be a full kitchen featuring homemade traditional ethnic foods; wheels of chance and games; face painting and activities for kids; vendors and crafters; gift auction; and 50/50. Admission is FREE. Hours: 11am-5pm. Over the years, this traditional event has brought our community together for a day of family fun and friendship. All proceeds of this fundraiser will go towards supporting school programs. Your support will allow the purchase of many resources and add extras to enhance the learning environment at ACS. The FSA Festival Committee is currently soliciting donations from area merchants, parishioners and friends of the school. We are now collecting new and never used items for the gift auction. Please bring items to the church or school office. Any donation is greatly appreciated no matter how big or small! Come spend an enjoyable afternoon!
Mrs. Garcia’s Coding Club was loud and AWESOME!! About 25 students were creating music using Make Code – the excitement of creating a beat was exciting and could be heard throughout the school. Next week the group will be using Scratch and will acquire the skills to use our Sphero Robots. They can’t wait. Exposure to different programs and tech skills enables our students to build skills for the future and spark an interest in technology …. now if they can create a program to grade papers!
The Perth Amboy Fire Department visited ACS this morning to teach fire safety lessons. They talked to students about having a working smoke alarm, making an escape plan, and using 911 appropriately. Students watched and listened attentively as the firemen explained what their job is like, how they use their equipment, how the fire pump truck works and how to stay safe.Thank you Perth Amboy Fire Department for all you do for the community and our school.
What do ACS students do on a rainy Wednesday afternoon? Cooking club and Arts and Crafts club! Today the middle school made chicken meatball, rice and potato soup – Mrs. D’s special recipe and with Mrs. Pickering’s assistances. Their soup was delicious and they have one more recipe to add to their collection. Their next stop was Arts and Crafts with Miss Martinez and Mrs. Lawrence and they finished that fall projects and they look amazing! 21st Century Grant continues to bless our kids.
About 20 years ago a hundred million dollar Federal Grant was created, the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) to create an enriched afterschool program. Today, that grant is $104 billion dollars and available to schools who apply and meet their criteria.
This year and for the next five years (I plan on re-applying!), Assumption Catholic School with the Academy for Urban Leadership Charter School have been awarded. Based on our enrollment, this means approximately $100,000 to offer a FREE aftercare program for grades 3 to 8. This is such a blessing for our school! We have been given the opportunity to design clubs to meet the interests of our students, and offer our parents a free child care and enrichment program – we are extremely excited.
Our aftercare for grades Pre-K to grade 2 will continue to run for $4 an hour and we are working to create different activities to keep them engaged as well.
I am looking for a seventh and eighth grade Math Teacher. Mrs. Rosell has resigned due to family obligations. We have been blessed to have Mrs. Szeliga substituting but are looking for a new teacher. If you know anyone who may be interested please have them contact me asap as we have already begun interviewing.
We have a lot of new and exciting things happening at ACS and we are grateful and excited, yet we realize that with any new programs many questions arise. Do not hesitate to text or call to discuss any feedback or questions. If we don’t know we can’t fix it.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Shumny
