A fairly friendly battle brews

Not to be outdone by their longtime ACS friends who just made the Bishop McCarrick HS honor roll, these Mother Seton HS students also made honors!

First honors: Jacqueline S. – ACS '05
Second Honors: Jessica C. – ACS '06, Patricia L. – ACS '06

Really rousing reunion

L-R – Tommy '71, Sharon, Sr. Yosaphata,
Glenys '71

The ACS all-years reunion was held on February 2. Students were able to walk around the school building to see their old classrooms – and to see all the improvements at ACS!

Refreshments were served and Mr. Obrizan prepared a neat projected slide show.

"We didn't have these when we were here."

Thanks go to the 8th grade students for decorating the hall and the Rosato and Denton children for serving. In addition, our appreciation goes to Ms. Makar, Mrs. Fiore, The Obrizan Family, Mrs. Lojko, and Mr. and Mrs. Pickering for communications and food preparations.

Sister Yosaphata was honored for her 45 years of continuous service. Now that's dedication.

See you at the next one!

Easter especially early

Christmas decorations have all been put away and we've swept up any remaining pine needles. Just in time, since Lent, the preparation time for Easter, starts two weeks from today.

Wait! What?

Yes, Lent begins for Eastern Catholics on Monday, February 4; and Ash Wednesday for Roman Catholics is February 6. That is because Easter of 2008 falls on March 23; the 2nd earliest date that Easter can be. There will not be another Easter on this date until the year 2160. Wow!

Since inquisitive ACS students want to know the whole story:

Easter is set on the first Sunday after the first full moon of spring. So the earliest date Easter can be is March 22. For that to happen, March 21st, the first day of spring, has to be a Saturday with a full moon that night. The last time that happened was in the year 1818 and it will not happen again until the year 2285.

Do you think that we'll have a snowstorm this Easter? That hasn't happened in New Jersey since March 29, 1970. Ask your parents or grandparents if they remember that one!

Whipped by the Wizards

The Harlem Wizards played a determined, but "unlucky," ACS team made up of faculty, parents, alumni, and parishioners. Over 200 showed up to cheer the ACS team on at the Perth Amboy HS gym.

A special thanks to Wilma Matey and Yacosta Perez who both sold over 25 tickets!

"This is the first time we've done this. The profits will go towards renovating our gym," offered the "sore" Mr. "S," Principal at ACS.

Added Ms. Makar, "Awesome – it was a good sense of school community, true sportsmanship, and just great fun."

Pre-K went to Wegman’s

The pre-K's first field trip was one they won't soon forget. The pre-K class, parents, and teachers went to the local Wegman's supermarket for what has become an annual trip.

During the two-hour tour, children learned where food comes from. They visited the bakery, vegetable, fishmarket, and cheese departments.

"Mrs. Cathy" from Wegman's praised the children for their good behavior -although apparently, someone almost got their fingers in a $24 cake!

The children finished the day with pizza, cupcakes, and juice.

"I'm just happy everyone was happy!" offered Mrs. Lojko, the pre-K teacher.
