ACS in the Community

It started with an idea and culminated in an afternoon Pep-Rally Presentation during the 2014 Catholic Schools Week. The idea was to have 8th grade students from Assumption Catholic School build a gaming and learning computer from the bottom up. Once the computer was fully operational, the children would then donate it to Kier's Kidz, an organization whose mission is to provide assistance to children diagnosed with cancer and their families.

Mr. Gary Chardyczak, a member of the Board of Trustees of Kier’s Kidz and the computer teacher at Assumption Catholic School came up with the idea and presented it to the 8th grade class. The students at Assumption Catholic Schools enthusiastically took up the challenge and spent weeks in the lab learning how to build a computer system from the ground up. The students, with the assistance of Mr. Chardyczak, researched and purchased the necessary parts, installed each component and software.

On Friday, January 31, 2014, the students and Mr. Chardyczak presented the computer to Dr. Larry Perfetti and Mimi Hickman Perfetti from Kier’s Kidz Charity. The computer will be made available to young cancer patients for their enjoyment.

Kier’s Kidz is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation. Information about Kier’s Kidz can be found online at http://www.kierskidz.com. The house space was allocated based on usage (what did you do in each room). We have gaming rooms, sleeping rooms, libraries, eating rooms and music rooms just to name a few.

Thank You cards for our US troops

Catholic Schools Week started on  a busy note for First Grade.

On Monday, January 27, 2014, each of our first graders presented their saint's project in front of the whole class. After two weeks of hard work, they shared what they had learned. Students learned many interesting facts about new saints that they had not heard of before. The morning was a huge success! In the afternoon, each first grader picked a buddy from the eighth graders. Working together, they made Thank You cards for our US troops. The cards were heartfelt and carefully decorated. First and eighth grade want our US troops to know that we are thinking of them and grateful for their service. We pray that God bless them and keep them safe.

Pre-K Show and Tell

As part of Catholic Schools Week, the Pre-K students participated in a class activity of Show and Tell. They were very excited to sit in the “teacher’s” chair and talk about what they brought in. The purpose of Show and Tell was a fun way for the students to learn about each other and develop their language skills. Everyone in the class had their listening ears on and responded by clapping. Overall it was a productive learning experience!

Saints Project

On January 27, 2014, during Catholic Schools Week, each of our First Graders presented their Saint's project infront of the whole class. It was a huge success. We got to know many saints we weren't aware of and learned interesting facts about them!
