With Halloween on the way, the children in pre-k have been learning a lot about pumpkins. They enjoyed learning how a pumpkin grows and about the parts of a pumpkin. To wrap up the unit the children had fun exploring the inside of a real pumpkin. They used the pumpkin seeds for art and they tasted the seeds after they were cooked.

On Wednesday, October 21st our middle school students had an enriching field trip, "A Waking Tour" of historic Perth Amboy. Students visited the Proprietary House, Kearny Cottage, the Tottenville Ferry slip and City Hall. Mayor Diaz also welcomed our ACS students into the Board Chambers and her personal office. It was a fantastic day filled with knowledge of our town’s rich history and a lot of fun!

Would you know what to do if there was a fire in your home? Thanks to an ACS parent and the Perth Amboy Fire Department students from Pre K to grade 8 learned exactly what to do.
Mr. Perez, dad of Nathaniel in grade 5 and a Perth Amboy firefighter, went over basic fire safety with all of the children. He introduced his fellow firefighters and explained the importance of knowing what to do in case of a fire. The firefighters also demonstrated what they would look like in their gear if they were to rescue someone trapped in a fire. The students were given the opportunity to ask questions and then were given hats, pens, pencils, and Halloween trick or treat bags.

The sixth grade class has completed the first unit in Religion and worked hard to complete their first marking period presentations. The project focused on the importance of prayer in everyday life and included research on the Rosary and all the Mysteries. The students shared their presentations with their classmates and shared their own prayer journey.
Keep up the good work class of 2018!
Assumption Catholic School’s FSA is always looking for new fundraising ideas that can raise more money each year for our school. On Thursday, October 8, 2015 Mr. Sean R. Daly, President of FSA, Mrs. Sharon Leone, Fr. Ivan Turyk and our school Principal Mr. Michael Szpyhulsky attended St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic School Beefsteak / Tricky Tray in Passaic, NJ. It was a very well organized event with so many fabulous prizes, too numerous to name. Many thanks to St. Nicholas School parents and administration for being so welcoming to us. Fr. Ivan once again won the HDTV, which he plans to donated to the FSA sponsored Christmas Bazaar on Sunday, November 8th.
As part of second grade writing, the students used their creative writing skills to complete the following writing prompts “If I was a scarecrow” and “I like fall because”. The students have quite the imagination! Following the writing activity, they created their very own scarecrow to display their writing. Happy Fall!
ACS students from kindergarten through eighth grade arrived at the Woodbridge Bowling Center on Tuesday to begin a new year of bowling. Younger bowlers from kindergarten through the third grade bowled using bumpers that prevent them from bowling a gutter ball. Fourth graders had their first experience without bumpers. The older, more experienced students enthusiastically showed off their skills to some newcomers to the sport. If the first day is an indicator of the rest of the year, ACS is going to have a fun bowling season.
