Middle School Performs Living Stations

As part of Holy Week ACS Middle School performs the Living Stations of the Cross. The Class of 2018 led the student body in song, while the classes of 2016 and 2017 acted out the Stations. Living Stations are a yearly school community event that reminds the students of the great sacrifice that Jesus made for us. When Stations were completed Father Ivan told the students of his experience when he visited the Holy Land and reminded them of the Veronica’s and Simon’s that they might be. As Holy Week comes to a close, the ACS community wishes everyone a blessed Easter and happy Spring break.

Easter Egg Decorating

If you walked through the cafeteria recently you would have found many excited students waiting their turn to decorate an Easter egg. Pre – K and Kindergarten students worked with the eighth grade to create the perfect egg. The second grade not only dyed their egg, they painted a second egg in Easter colors. When these classes finished creating their masterpieces, other classes came to the cafeteria to create their own Easter eggs. At end of the day all of the participants had a chance to spend some quality time with their classmates making good memories.

Lenten reading challenge

Fifth graders are pictured holding books with a religious theme that were read during their Lenten reading challenge. Students read a total of 18,262 pages which is represented by 513 books. Well done fifth graders!

Student Council Supports Food Drive.

Assumption Catholic School Student Council recently completed their Lenten Food Drive. Nonperishable foods were collected and brought to Father Ivan to support the Parish food drive. Collected foods will be donated to a local food pantry. Thank you to ACS Student Council for sponsoring the school collection. Thank you also to the ACS families that sent in donations. A special thanks to the Classes of 2016 and 2018 for your extra effort in this Lenten season.

Weather reports.

Inspired by a story detailing how a storm traveled across the USA, fifth graders created their own weather reports. Each team of three students chose a country, researched it’s climate, and created a three day weather event. Included in their presentation was a map which supported their forecasts.

ACS Jumps Into Distance Learning

Last year ACS started offering their students Algebra I through a  cooperative program with Cardinal McCarrick High School. With the closing of CMHS, Bishop George Ahr High School took over the program to continue challenging our students and offering this high school level course.  ACS students started the year commuting to Sacred Heart in South Amboy and used long distance learning. Recently with the purchase of Chrome Books, our students began taking their classes right here at ACS! It’s another 21st century technological leap for the students of ACS!

Congratulations to our kindergarten teacher Mrs. Derevenska

Congratulations to our kindergarten teacher Mrs. Derevenska, who was recently honored by the Perth Amboy Knights of Columbus as Assumption Catholic School’s Teacher of the Year. She was also surprised on Monday with flowers from her colleagues and a fruit bouquet from our F.S.A. in recognition of her achievement.
Mrs. D. as she is affectionately known, has been at A.C.S. for over 10 years as our kindergarten teacher. All of the students that were in Mrs. D’s kindergarten class reminisced about their fun times with Mrs. D. Congratulations on your wonderful achievement. May God continue to shower you with his blessings.

ACS teacher received the Teacher of the Year Award.

On Saturday, March 12th, 2016 at their Annual Shield Awards ceremony the Knights of Columbus, San Salvador Council No. 299 in Perth Amboy, NJ have honored ACS teacher Mrs. Mariya Derevenska with the Teacher of the Year Award. Mrs. Derevenska has been teaching at Assumption Catholic School for for almost ten years and in these years she developed an exciting, yet, rigorous reading and writing curriculum that has the majo…rity of her Kindergarten class reading and writing by the end of January. She also created a contagious passion for learning math and counting everything – even the ceiling tiles. If you thought she was Super Woman in the classroom she proved to Wonder Woman in the kitchen! She started the Annual ACS Thanksgiving Feast where she cooked and prepared over 12 turkeys and all the fixings with the help of parents. It gave our entire school a time to be thankful for their second family at Assumption Catholic. Mrs. D, as her students lovingly call her, is truly loved by our administrators, our parents and the entire student body for her energy, dedication, passion for Catholic Education and love that she has for our school and for all of our students. Congratulations and thank you Mrs. D for a job well done!
