Barnes & Noble Book Fair

Thank you to everyone who came to the Barnes & Noble book fair on Wednesday, April 7th . It was so nice to see so many ACS families, teachers, and students together after school celebrating the power of reading and music. A special thank you to the teachers who read and all students, who to the delight of their families and friends, recited poetry, sang songs and played chimes. It was a great success, and a lot of fun. Special thanks to the 6th grade teacher Mrs. Lissette D Shumny for all her work in coordinating the book fair.

Easter Mission.

While most students will be enjoying their Easter break, one of A.C.S. our students will be heading on a mission to Haiti to bring God’s word and relief to those in need. Anali R.of the Class of 2017 will be traveling with her dad and sister Amarilis, (Class of 2014) to spend a week teaching and distributing supplies to the less fortunate.
ACS middle school students wanted to show their support for the work they will be doing so they took up a collection and in addition to the donation from Father Ivan and the Assumption parishioners a monetary donation of over $600 was given. In addition students in grade 3-5 sent pencils and Pre K through grade 2 donated crayons.
May God bless and keep Anali and the other members of her family safe as they bring His Word to those in need!

Bunny Bags

"Bunny Bags" filled with treats and sweets were enjoyed by fifth graders at their Resurrection celebration. Though they made the bags before Easter, the joy of our risen Lord could not happen until after His resurrection. Afterward students played a game finishing off a fun afternoon.

Good Friday Vespers and Procession with Holy Shroud in Perth Amboy, NJ.

On Good Friday morning, April 25, 2016 ACS students along with the parishioners of Ukrainian Assumption Catholic Church have gathered to commemorate the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ. In Ukrainian this day is called Veleka Pyatnysia. Divine Liturgy for the feast on Annunciation with Burial Vespers and Procession with the Most Holy Shroud (Plaschanitsia) took place on this special day. The service was a most beautiful mix of pastor, parish choir, and ACS school students praying together remembering what it must have been like to lay Jesus in the tomb. After the service, parishioners approached the Plaschanitsia on their knees to kiss the five wounds of Jesus.

Middle School Performs Living Stations

As part of Holy Week ACS Middle School performs the Living Stations of the Cross. The Class of 2018 led the student body in song, while the classes of 2016 and 2017 acted out the Stations. Living Stations are a yearly school community event that reminds the students of the great sacrifice that Jesus made for us. When Stations were completed Father Ivan told the students of his experience when he visited the Holy Land and reminded them of the Veronica’s and Simon’s that they might be. As Holy Week comes to a close, the ACS community wishes everyone a blessed Easter and happy Spring break.

Easter Egg Decorating

If you walked through the cafeteria recently you would have found many excited students waiting their turn to decorate an Easter egg. Pre – K and Kindergarten students worked with the eighth grade to create the perfect egg. The second grade not only dyed their egg, they painted a second egg in Easter colors. When these classes finished creating their masterpieces, other classes came to the cafeteria to create their own Easter eggs. At end of the day all of the participants had a chance to spend some quality time with their classmates making good memories.
