Grade 7
Mr Wythe’s 7th grade social studies class recently put on a model US Congress. The class elected a class president according to the Electoral College, who appointed a cabinet. The class, led by the Speaker of the House, debated 3 bills to pass to the President to be signed into law. Seventh Grade passed a bill banning tobacco sales on college campuses, appointed a sub-committee to fact-check a proposed Voter ID act, and voted down a bill to begin drilling for oil.
Grade 5
Mr Wythe’s 5th grade social studies class has been hard at work studying the events that led up to the Civil War. To start the unit, 5th Grade did a research project on the Dred Scott hearing and then presented their findings in a new report format. Each group had 2 anchors, and a field reporter who interviewed the US Supreme Court. Everyone enjoyed their time behind the news desk!
Cool Paper Cat Puppets
In honor of Dr. Suess Day, the kindergartens along with their 8th grade reading buddy made ‘Cool Paper Cat Puppets’. They enjoyed interacting and learning from each other as well as working towards a common goal together. Everyone had so much fun!!
Students of the Month
Students in fifth through the eighth grade were recognized recently as ACS Middle School Students of the Month for the month of February. Students showed effort in their work, displayed courteous attitude, and most importantly, reflected Jesus in their daily lives.
FSA meeting
Once again, Thursday’s FSA meeting was filled with music and many parents. We had a productive meeting followed by entertainment from Kindergarteners to second graders. They sang about diversity and acceptance and of course ACS! See you next month when Pre-Kindergarten and ACS Stackers will perform!
Color blind lab
The Class of 2019 culminated their research involving heredity with a color blind lab. The students tested their classmates as well as students in other classes to see if they may carry the chromosome for color blindness. They compiled their data and were surprised with their findings. The scientists are blooming at ACS!
The ACS Food Club was at it again!
The ACS Food Club was at it again! Yesterday the 8th graders, Mrs.Derevenska, and Mrs. Shumny listened attentively as Mrs. Pickering as she shared her infamous chocolate truffle recipe. The delicious dessert was …well… SIMPLY DELICIOUS! Each student was able to make their own family size portion of the dessert to take home. This club allows our 8th graders to learn a new skill and to appreciate the joy of cooking. Thank you Mrs. Pickering for the new recipe. Stay tuned for Sr. Yosaphata’s pierogy recipe!
Happy Valentine’s Day from the third and fourth grade!
Happy Valentine’s Day from the third and fourth grade! Today both classes celebrated friendship and spent time together making chocolate covered pretzels and sharing some treats and cards. The teachers helped each student decorate their sweets and they all used their creative and artistic skills. Happy Valentine’s Day!
