ACS Education Technology

14 Chrome books arrived yesterday. What does this mean to Assumption Catholic School? It means the completion of a three year technology plan goal! We officially announce that ACS students in grades 3 to 8 all have a chromebook to use on a one to one ratio. Kindergarten to second grade has a one to one ratio of ipads.

This last purchase was possible through Perth Amboy Board of Education Technology Money provided to non-public schools. Prior to this purchase, ACS directly purchased over 21 chromebooks in order to ensure that our teachers can continue to integrate technology into lessons and giving students the opportunity to expand their skills. Technology provides a different opportunity to make learning more fun and allows our students access to information on a bigger broader scale.

We tried out the new Chromebooks during our MAP Testing, and they were perfect! In addition to this major accomplishment, ACS has installed Access Points in each classroom to make sure that our internet and infrastructure is able to handle all the new devices. This has been a long process yet has been worth it.

By planning, having vision, creating student centered goals and God’s amazing blessings we have reached this milestone. We ask our Blessed Mother to guide us as we develop our next set of Technology goals so that we may continue to bring 21st Century tools and opportunities to our students.

Cooking and Arts/Crafts clubs

What do ACS students do on a rainy Wednesday afternoon? Cooking club and Arts and Crafts club! Today the middle school made chicken meatball, rice and potato soup – Mrs. D’s special recipe and with Mrs. Pickering’s assistances. Their soup was delicious and they have one more recipe to add to their collection. Their next stop was Arts and Crafts with Miss Martinez and Mrs. Lawrence and they finished that fall projects and they look amazing! 21st Century Grant continues to bless our kids.

ACS Awarded a Federal Grant.

About 20 years ago a hundred million dollar Federal Grant was created, the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC), in order to provide students with an enriched afterschool program. Today, that grant is $104 billion dollars and available to schools who apply and meet their criteria.
This year and for the next five years (I plan on re-applying!), Assumption Catholic School with the Academy for Urban Leadership Charter School have been awarded. Based on our enrollment, this means approximately $100,000 to offer a FREE aftercare program (3 to 6pm) for grades 3 to 8. This is such a blessing for our school! We have been given the opportunity to design clubs to meet the interests of our students, and offer our parents free child care and an enrichment program with tutoring and homework help for every student – we are extremely excited.
So far we are offering: Culinary Club, Ukrainian Dance, Arts and Crafts club, Soccer, Dance/Jazzercise, Chimes, Sewing, Cultural Club, STEM, Coding, Bull Dog News (newspaper, podcasting), Book Club, Drama and Performing Arts ….. and this is just the beginning! Stay tuned for high-lights of each activity!

Annual ACS BBQ

Our Annual ACS BBQ was a success. Delicious food, great music and amazing company – what a way to kick off the school year! Over 100 tickets sold, and all the proceeds will go to subsidize our field trips for the year. Thank you to our wonderful teachers (and their families) for cooking, decorating and running this whole school community event. Thank you Dj Tony BoJo Negron!

About 20 years ago a hundred million dollar Federal Grant was created, the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) to create an enriched afterschool program. Today, that grant is $104 billion dollars and available to schools who apply and meet their criteria.

Our aftercare for grades Pre-K to grade 2 will continue to run for $4 an hour and we are working to create different activities to keep them engaged as well.

I am looking for a seventh and eighth grade Math Teacher.  Mrs. Rosell has resigned due to family obligations. We have been blessed to have Mrs. Szeliga substituting but are looking for a new teacher. If you know anyone who may be interested please have them contact me asap as we have already begun interviewing.

We have a lot of new and exciting things happening at ACS and we are grateful and excited, yet we realize that with any new programs many questions arise. Do not hesitate to text or call to discuss any feedback or questions. If we don’t know we can’t fix it.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Shumny

ACS Back to School Night

2019-2020 ACS Back to School night and first Family and School Association Meeting was a success! Our families came out to listen to our new endeavors in curriculum and technology, address questions and meet their children’s teachers. We had over 80% of our parents attend and were eager to share information on our new Math program and much more! This is just the beginning! Thank you to the teacher and FSA Members who came and helped!

Backpacks blessing

ACS in Perth Amboy, NJ completed its first full week of school with a beautiful whole school Liturgy and a special Backpack Blessing. The children placed their backpacks on the steps of the altar. Some book bags had student’s first set of school crayons, some had thick algebra books – but all were filled with our student’s excitement and love for learning. Father Ivan prayed and asked God to continue to watch over our students and to guide their choices. Today, we celebrated God’s gift of learning, and we prayed for His blessing on students, teachers and our school for the coming year. Wonderful end to the first full week of school!
