Veteran’s Day

Today is Veteran’s Day, formerly known as Armistice Day., which remembers the end of WWI – which went into effect on the 11th day of the 11th month at the 11th hour.Today, we celebrate the services of all those that have served in the Armed Forces. While, we should always be appreciative of those that have served, today is the day that businesses make it a point to say thank you with discounts and free meals. We should also always keep the struggling veterans in our prayers. Many find themselves with sickness, both physical and mental as a result of their sacrifice for our countryOne of our alumni, Yahnie W., asked current ACS students to join her in participating in a campaign to write letters and cards to those in the military. Our students created over 150 cards for those who serve and protect us! ACS wishes to acknowledge this beautiful day!

Happy Halloween from your ACS friends!

This morning we wrote about a favorite Halloween memory. Each class worked on Halloween math and reading activities, created candy corn arrays, 6th grade continued preparing for their wax museum, and the little ones made slime! Our wonderful FSA treated all students to a delicious pancake breakfast. 6th and 7th grade even watched a movie! Lots of treats and candy were passed out and everyone had a terrific day! We pray everyone is safe while they trick or treat and gets a lot of candy!

“Wrap Up” Meeting.

During our reaccreditation process, amplifying student voice is one of the goals we developed at ACS. We administered surveys to gather information about what our students want and ways to make our school even better! Every Friday we have a “Wrap Up” Meeting where students can share their successes and things we need to work on. The meetings are meaningful and opens honest conversations about what he all need to work on. This week our ACS Dance Team gave a performance during the meeting and WOW the school spirit was intense!! Attached is also pictures from our sewing club. A club developed purely out of student interest. They learned necessary tools; a running stitch, a backstitch and how to sew on a button. The students put it all together to make pencil cases. They even coordinated the thread and buttons with their fabric! We are so proud of each of our students and proud to say that ACS continues to grow and flourish.

Coding Club

Mrs. Garcia’s Coding Club was loud and AWESOME!! About 25 students were creating music using Make Code – the excitement of creating a beat was exciting and could be heard throughout the school. Next week the group will be using Scratch and will acquire the skills to use our Sphero Robots. They can’t wait. Exposure to different programs and tech skills enables our students to build skills for the future and spark an interest in technology …. now if they can create a program to grade papers!
